That's all, folks!

Hi Guys, it was great to work with you all this session!  I enjoyed getting to know all of you and I was really pleased with the progress you made, right up until the last class!  You can feel free to keep posting stuff here, and I might even look at it...  I hope to see you all again in future classes, or perhaps even walking the halls at Pixar.  Please don't take my job, though!

See y'all around!

I won't say goodbye because I know we'll all be hanging out in the new year, but I wanted to say a big thanks to everyone for a great class! I've taken several classes at AnimC, and this is hands-down the best group I've been a part of!

I really appreciate all of you guys sitting through my shot week after week and helping me make it something I'm proud of! All of you guys are so talented and creative; I can't wait to see more work from you all!

A big thank you, of course, to Victor for sharing his insights with us and taking time out of a very busy schedule to help us push our work to the next level. Not only do I feel like I've learned a ton more about animation in terms of performance and technical approaches, but I feel more confident in my choices and more comfortable pushing my shots further! And it was a real treat to mix some drinks behind the bar at Pixar :) I'll work on my cocktail skills for next time!

I'm not sure who all is taking classes next term, but you can usually find me at the TA desk!

Happy holidays and see you all next year!

Shot

On the off chance you guys still check this - I didn't get to show my other shot last night, so if anyone's around and has the time I'd love some thoughts! I finally got the IK worked out - had to re-import the characters and re-block everything, but it's working now! So sad class is over! Let's keep in touch!

Because I know how much victor likes Robots..

Here's some real ones! We're living in the future! These are pretty crazy-looking!

Anyhow, I had a great time in class with you all, thanks for an awesome semester and what a fun send-off at Pixar!

Take care!

Kathryn's new head gesture, misc polish

Hey guys!

Here's what I have so far. I'm still working on the arms - mostly because I'm dreading them!! I've been working on the new head gesture(s) for "...on myself that I thought for a second..." so hopefully those are reading clearly and the body is reacting believably.

Questions:

- is the blink f144-f149 unnecessary? Should she look down at the stirrer instead?

- I copied the Jaw Rx curve into the Nose Ty curve. It's currently on the same timing... I can't remember if it's typically delayed 1f or no.

- There's a little bit of head squetch peppered in on the antics and big vowel sounds. Too much? Too little? Just right?

- I'm not happy with the fact that her pupils are right in line with the top rim of her glasses at the end... should I lift her head up or kick her glasses down while her head swoops down on "shot" ?

Thanks!

PS - I might be a little late on Thursday depending on what time my apartment maintenance guys come by for their "preventative" inspection. I have to stick around because my dog will go nuts if they let themselves in while I'm gone :/ Hopefully they will come by early in the day and I will be in at my usual time! Either way, I will not miss our last class! :)

Hey folks!

I'm still working on my current shot, and should be posting stuff for that tomorrow I'm hoping, but I figured in the meantime it would be awesome to get some more feedback on the first shot I did! I worked on it a lot before going to CTN so I'm pretty sure it's a version I have yet to receive feedback on from you guys so that would be rad. I feel like I could push the emotion coming through in the face, but I'm not too sure where as I don't want it to feel too busy. But yea! Any notes would be awesome! Thanks guys!

Guitar shot from Nicole

Hi Everyone!

Sorry for all the posts, I'm trying to bust everything out the last week! Here's my newest version of the guitar shot, I tried to hit all the notes from class about adding elasticity to her face, getting more contrast into her last smile, and getting the arm/hand to not stay so locked. I still feel like there's this huge gap between the quality of my shot and the level of polish I want, but I'm not sure really how to get there.

Thanks for taking a look!

Keith - Shot 2 Revision

I went back and took a little more reference for his reaction at the end of the shot to try and find a little more texture.  The take I liked the most ended up being a little different than my first few passes of blocking, but I think it still ends up in the same place, acting-wise.  I also toned down his head turn at "terrible" quite a bit.

Rough Spline Revision 2

So here's the original reference with the Modified Reference intercut for continuity.  For some reason I really liked building his tension and frustration just a little bit more before he finally processes what she's saying and then having that tension sort of melt away at the last moment.  I also like that there's a little more texture to the movement, but I'm worried it might be too distracting from her delivery.  I roughly blocked out the shaking on a different layer, so it shouldn't be too difficult to either tone down or take out completely.

I also worry that I'm changing the acting just for the sake of changing it, so I'm probably going to back off a little on this shot and try to polish the Fire shot as much as I can for a couple days.  I feel like with just a week left I'm starting to get a little rushed and I probably pushed into splines a little sooner than I would have because of it.  I'm starting to realize "finishing" the two character shot in a week is a little on the insane side, so I'd rather have at least one of the two in a good place before we're done here.

Anyway, thanks for taking a look!

Jackie- revisions to shot 3

Hi guys, here is my attempt to hit the notes on shot 3, particularly the girl's hip/ head/ arm gesture on "do it for me". Is this working better? Thanks for looking!

Nicole's Fix

Hello :) I wanted to hit my notes kinda quick so I could move on- anything else major that needs to change before I finish breaking it down and spline? https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33086071/026_Awkward_blocking_BREAKDOWNS.mov

Jackie- rough 3D body blocking

Hi guys, here is my latest 3D blocking (body only.) I know a lot of this shot is going to come through the facial animation, so I'm moving on to that now. For this, I'm wondering, does it read clearly? Is the staging/ camera working? I changed both a bit. IS the dragon moving too much/ too little? I'm not married to the hand poses; I need to work them a bit more still. Also Robert commented a bit about the dragon's head nudge, is this working? Thanks for looking and see you all tomorrow night!

New Blocking

Here's my new blocking - took me a while to come up with different ideas. Not sure it works, so thought I'd send it out to the blog. I'm having a problem with switching between fk/ik Malcolm arm - if anyone has any insights I would greatly appreciate it. As you can see, when she leans against the door frame her hand slides right off instead of sticking. So, tell me what you think! Thanks!
